Captain Norvin Kallis is a Bajoran Starfleet officer who served as the commanding officer of the Federation starships Iowa & Phalax between the years 2377 & 2380.
Norvin Kallis is a Star Fleet Captain who is currently serving Commanding Officer of the USS Iowa since 2378. He first began his tour on the Iowa serving as the vessel's Chief Security and Tactical Officer before being fast tracked into the command position after Captain Edward Launceston took up a position with Star Fleet Command. His time as Captain on the USS Iowa was briefly interupted in 2379 when the Iowa pulled into spacedock for a massive repair and refit cycle. The ship was out of action for close to six months and the vast majority of the Iowa's crew were reassigned to other positions across the fleet including Captain Kallis who transferred to Earth to teach at Star Fleet Academy.
Kallis returned to Captain the Iowa once again following the vessel's refit in 2380 and has held that position to this day.
Biography
Norvin Kallis was a Lieutenant when he was assigned to the Galaxy Class starship Iowa under the command of Captain Edward Launceston as Chief Security and Tactical Officer in 2376. He assumed the role of Second Officer in 2377 and was quickly promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Later that year he served briefly as the Iowa's Acting First Officer under the command of Iowa's then executive officer Commander Daniel Butterworth who had been named acting captain following the departure of Captain Launceston who had taken up a position at Starfleet Command on Earth.
Commander Butterworth's tenure as the Iowa's Commanding Officer was brief as the Commander had already been named as captain of the new starship Pacifica. He was replaced by Kallis who had been named as the Iowa's new commanding officer much to his own personal surprise. Norvin was promoted to the rank of Commander and led the Iowa in a mission to track down a second automated drone ship that had been responsible for attacking Federation colonies on the edge of Federation space.
In late 2378 USS Iowa was one of several Federation vessels that responded to a attack on the Federation Space Station Deep Space 12 that was being conducted by a Borg vessel from a parallel universe. The Iowa participated in the final battle to retake the station, receiving only minor damage to the secondary hull. Following a brief layover at DS12 for repairs Commander Kallis and the Iowa teamed with the USS Pacifica to conduct a search for a missing science vessel that had disappeared near the Federation & Cardassian Border. It was during this mission that Kallis was promoted to the rank of Captain.
