At fifteen he was a licensed and certified warp qualified pilot. Robert Johansen enlisted in the marines in 2372 after completing boot camp he went to the Federation-Klingon Border where he saw action on Tiber IV against Klingon ground troops. His markmanship skills drew the attention of his superiors when he was able to score eleven confirmed kills in covering the retreat of his platoon thus saving many Federation lives. He was commended for this. After the Klingon War he was reassigned to the Cardassian Border, while there he assisted in the evacuation of Federation Settlements near the demilitarized zone in preparation for the expected Dominion Invasion. After the beginning of the Dominion War in late 2373 Robert saw battle against the Jem'Hadar, Cardassian and later Breen forces until he was shipped off at the request of his superior officers to Starfleet Academy in the summer of 2374.

Starfleet Academy History

Roobert at first felt out of place as a former enlisted man now training to be an officer, however he soon began to make friends with his fellow cadets. Robert impressed his instructors especially in flight and tactical training, he graduated Starfleet Academy in 2378.
