General Information

As these aliens exist in a non-corporeal state they are not constrained by physical concepts as such they can travel through space at will without need for a body a starship or time so it appears from the Pacifica's contact with this species.

It was soon learnt that existing on our plane of existence is possible for the aliens, however they prefer to stow away in a humanoid's consciousness reserving their energy. They require this preciously stored energy in order to return to their own plane of existence. A feat that requires all of their strength, however every so often they need to recharge replenishing their energy in order to continue existing on our plane. That being said if they cannot find a suitable energy source, one alien can subsume another combining their energy in one entity that can survive longer but also subsuming the personality of the subsumed alien. in this way they can extend how far they can travel from a suitable energy source. This information was acquired by a member of the Pacifica's crew when his consciousness was joined to that of a member of the alien race. In their plane of existence they can absorb energy from certain spatial phenomena such as nebulae - although on our plane such energy from spatial phenomena cannot be directly absorbed without certain stimuli. In the Pacifica's experience a neutrino emission leaked into a nebula created a stabilising affect that helped the aliens to recharge. They share a certain similarity with the Borg in that they are a conscious and subconscious collective, however as little activity of this collective was witnessed it appears that this ability only holds true when an alien is on the same plane of existence as another of its kind.

Not having physical needs or boundaries the aliens seek to learn more about the cosmos and are a species of explorers, their knowledge is no doubt great likely to be far in excess of that possessed by the Federation - although it appears as with the Federation that they do not wish to reveal too much to less advanced civilisations such as the Federation as they may not be ready for it. In their time aboard the USS Pacifica the aliens did not reveal information that the crew of the Pacifica and indeed the Federation was not already aware of and due to their secrecy little is known of their origin or home plane of existence or how they travel between these planes with such ease. As non-corporeal entities without the restrictions of physical form the aliens have impressive mental powers as well as communicating between themselves via a collective mind they also communicate with other species by way of telepathy. However this ability appears unreliable without a recipient with some mental powers and this was what caused the final fall of the USS Noble. Without trained telepaths to communicate with the aliens the 'possessed' crew could do nothing but follow the alien's whims. The Pacifica crew however fared slightly better communicating with the aliens in a successful first contact and assisting them in their return home. With a recipient with mental powers they can communicate clearly using the recipient's mental powers to further communicate telepathically with others that are without such skills. In such cases they can broadcast either on a tight beam to a small group or single recipient or on a wider basis to larger groups, the range of this telepathy is unknown although it is believed that it can be extensive. The alien that had occupied Ensign Adam James sent him a mental farewell from within the nebula when the Derwent had exited it. As the density of the nebula was great and with all of the energy disperse from the destruction off the USS Noble such a feat would take great effort. They also appear to have precognition the ability to see into the future or at least possible futures. Other known powers are the ability to purge toxic elements from their hosts and as they exist without form to pass through solid objects. Sadly with little actual scientific research time there was little other knowledge that could be gleaned from this mysterious race.

As they are non-corporeal weapons such as phasers do not appear to directly harm them although they can still affect their hosts. That being said when linked to hosts due to the depth of their mental link they do appear to be susceptible to the hosts injury at least on a short term basis as they are not adjusted to the overwhelming sensation of physical pain. It appears that they 'feel' this through their link to their host host's nervous system and it can cause them to lose focus on their mental powers at least for a little while. In addition the aliens can also be forced from hosts by bombarding the surrounding area with chroniton particles, a method used to prevent the bajoran prophets from carrying out the "reckoning" on Deep Space 9 which forces the aliens to let go of the bodies they control and pushes them out of the affected area. The aliens have yet to communicate with the Federation in any formal way since the encounter and we are yet to learn their offical name, however Second Lieutenant Rogal Dorn refers to them as the Xxorll.
