Lost Fighters

Posted on Thu Feb 8th, 2007 @ 5:02pm by Captain Daniel Butterworth

Mission: The Zone
Location: Bridge USS Pacifica

ON:

~~~~Bridge USS Pacifica~~~~
After listening to what Lt. L\'Verrem had to say, Butterworth ordered the
ship to red alert and all hands to battlestations. Butterworth knew that
combat was going to come rather quickly once the Pacifica cleared the nebula
and he wanted everyone to be ready for it. Butterworth was about to return
to his command chair when Lieutenant Cesarian caught his attention from the
engineering station.
Cesarian: Sir, Lieutenant Commander Kirkwood wanted me to inform you that
they are still replacing one of the power couplins in the forward phaser
array.
Butterworth: How long should they be?
Cesarian: Another 5 to 10 minutes.
Butterworth: ;;nods his head;; Alright.
Judging from the estimate they were going to have enough time to bring the
forward phaser array online before the ship entered combat. Butterworth had
full faith that his chief engineer would pull off the task with a few
minutes to spare. Sitting himself down in his chair Butterworth checked the
ship\'s course and speed. They were still two minutes away from clearing the
nebula.
Butterworth: ;;glances over to the science stations;; Mr.Harris keep your
eyes on the sensors let me know the minute you detect anything.
Harris: Aye sir.
Butterworth and everyone else on the bridge waited and watched as the ship
continued to move out of the nebula at what seemed to be a very slow speed,
but Butterworth knew that they couldn\'t go any faster within the nebula.
Finally after a few minutes he could see clear space on the viewscreen, a
few more seconds went by before the ensign spoke up at the helm.
Helm: We are clear of the nebula sir. Going to warp now.
Right on the cue the Pacifica\'s warp engines came to life and the ship shot
into warp, accellerating quickly. After a few moments Lieutenant Harris
spoke up from the main science station.
Harris: Sir I\'m detecting 6 of our fighters heading in our direction.
Polaris: Only six?
Harris: ;;slowly nods his head;; Yes sir.
Polaris: ;;turns to Butterworth;; Looks like we may of lost two.
Harris: ;;looks over his shoulder;; Two other ships have just entered sensor
range. They are right on the tail of our fighters.
Polaris: Look\'s like we\'ve got some company.
Butterworth: Helm what\'s our ETA.
Helm: Five minutes sir.
OFF: Tag everyone.
