Rear Admiral is a military rank, the equivalent of which is used by the service organizations of many civilizations.
Use in Starfleet
In Starfleet the rank of Rear Admiral is the second flag officer rank, after Commodore and before Vice Admiral. The equivalent rank used by the Starfleet Marine Core is Major General.
Rear Admirals can command Star Fleet Task Forces, divisions at Starfleet Headquarters, Starbases, and can hold other important positions in the fleet.
