General Overview
The different alert statuses that are currently used on the USS Pacifica and descriptions for each status.
Alert Statuses
Condition Green
Condition Green is the lowest and standard day to day alert status used on Starfleet vessels and facilities, it is also known to many as 'Cruise Mode'. Starships will always operate at Condition Green unless faced with any possible hazardous situations.
Blue Alert
Blue Alert (also Condition Blue) is an alert signal status on Starfleet vessels and facilites which is called for in exceptional situations, ranging from docking and separation maneuvers, landing protocols, cloaking and low power modes.
On a vessel with landing capabilities, such as the Intrepid-class, blue alert is called as an indication that the ship was preparing either to land or to take off; the crew would then need to report to code blue stations, in order to aid in the landing/liftoff procedures. Blue alert was not required for landing an Intrepid-class starship, however, as the USS Voyager did make a landing while at red alert.
A Blue Alert is also activated when a Federation vessel is running under a cloaking device.
Yellow Alert
A yellow alert (also condition yellow) is the second highest alert signal status on Starfleet vessels and facilites. It designates a ship wide state of increased alertness and preparedness for possible crisis situations including possible combat. Whilst at yellow alert shields and deflectors are brought to full power, but all weapons systems remain offline.
A yellow alert may either be activated manually by any member of the crew in preparation for a tactical or environmentally hazardous situation, or automatically upon detection of unknown or hostile spacecraft, or upon detection of certain system malfunctions. If the situation escalates, a crewmember or the main computer will order a red alert.
During yellow alert the on duty crew will prepare for possible combat or hazardous conditions, any senior staff that are not on duty will be contacted and ordered to attend their positions. All civilians during Yellow Alert are required to report to their quarters or to desinated civilian safe zones.
Red Alert
Red Alert is the highest alert signal status used on Starfleet vessels and facilities, it is one stage above a yellow alert. In this status the weapons systems and shields are brought to full power, as the ship prepares for combat. Red alert is also ordered during various other emergency situations, such as a ship being exposed to radiation, a security alert, massive systems failure, an imminent warp core breach, and an evacuation order among others.
The red alert may either be activated manually by any member of the crew or automatically when a ship receives damage or upon detection of certain system malfunctions.
During a red alert, lights are dimmed (to allow better viewing of the LCARs system), alarms blare, and computer terminals show constant red graphics. Upon activation of the red alert all crewmembers are required to attend their designated combat stations. All civilians will move to designated civilian 'safe zones' or to their quarters, which ever is closer.
