A Linguist is one who can, on the spot, figure out new languages. Linguists come in particularly handy on away missions where the Universal Translator does not or cannot function and serve as part of the Linguistics Department. The Linguist Officer reports to both the Chief Science Officer and Chief Communications Officer.
