Connie closely studied her reflection in the mirror that she was sitting in front of, as she contemplated the most single important day of her entire life. She was a complete bundle of nerves, which was a feeling that Connie wasn't use to. To her it felt like the time she had sat her final examinations at Star Fleet Medical, but this time her feelings felt more intense then anything that she had experienced before. Today was not only the day where she would become Mrs Connie Butterworth, but the day when her life would be changed forever.
It was a change though that Connie didn't fear, far from in fact, it was something that she welcomed with her entire heart and left feeling warm inside. Daniel was the love of her life, her soul mate and her best friend. She wasn't complete unless he was standing by her side, Connie had never been more certain of this then she was right now. Today she was starting a lifetime journey with Daniel, one that she knew would be full with ups and down, but it was a journey that Connie only wanted to take with him. She wanted nothing more then to forge a lifetime of memories with Daniel and to one day start their very own family together.
She was full with nothing but optimism about her and Daniel's future together, but her feelings of nervous remained, it was something that she couldn't simply dismiss and she didn't know why. Connie was in fact having a hard time understanding why she was feeling the way she was. Was she just nervous with anticipation for what was ahead of her? Or was it something else entirely? She didnt know, all that she did know was that her stomach was full of butterflies.
Her thoughts were drawn back to the moment, by the appearance of her sister's reflection in the glass mirror, that Connie had been staring at blankly for the past couple of minutes. Kelly brought her hands down and patted her older sister on her shoulders, as leaned forward slightly.
Kelly: You've become awfully quiet, not getting cold feet are you?
Connie watched her sister's face closely in the mirror, before firmly shaking her head in response.
Connie: No, I'm right
Kelly: You sure? ;;smiles;; I don't want to have to be dragging you down the aisle now.
Connie: I don't think that'll be necessary.
Kelly: Good, because I'll do it you know. Even if your kicking and screaming all the way.
Connie smiled as she reached up and gave her sister's hand a reassuring squeeze, thanking Kelly for her attempt to lighten up her mood. Kelly was Connie's confidante and vice versa, they had always been like that ever since they were young children and always would be. They spent many a night in this very bedroom now sharing their inner most thoughts, fears and dreams for the future and today was no different. Connie was grateful to have her sister here by her side on her big day. Kelly was a reassuring presence for her, Connie knew that she couldn't get through the day without having Kelly by her side and those fears had nearly eventuated if it hadn't been for a friend.
Up until yesterday morning Kelly had been stuck on Starbase 24 with no way to get to Earth in time for the wedding. Thankfully Kelly had managed to find herself a ride to Earth after a chance encounter with Captain Buzz Polaris, who ended up giving her a ride to Earth on the shuttle he was taking to the wedding. Connie was grateful to Buzz for his help and she was determined to seek him out at the wedding and thank him for all that he had done.
She slowly tilted her head and looked up directly at Kelly who was still gazing into the mirror.
Connie: Thanks for being here.
Kelly: Are you kidding? I wouldn't of missed this for the world.
Connie: Thanks anyway.
Kelly: ;;nods and smiles;; Your Welcome.
Connie looked back around into the mirror as Kelly gave her another reassuring pat on the shoulder, then disappeared over to the side of the room. Connie looked deep in to her reflection and tilted her head slightly to the side as she ran a hand through her still wet. Wondering what the time was, Connie quickly turned in her chair and looked back across to Kelly who was taking a closer look at Connie's wedding dress that was hanging by the window.
Connie: Do you have the time?
Kelly: Sure.
Kelly nodded her head as she glanced across at the nearby bedside table and checked the time on the little readout monitor.
Kelly: It's about twenty to twelve. What time did Vanessa say she was coming at again?
Connie: She said about eleven thirty
Connie looked back at her reflection in the mirror, pondering to herself about when her friend would arrive. She had been taking the occasion glance out of the nearby window in the hope of seeing Vanessa coming.
Connie: I hope she's not late.
Kelly: Don't worry shell be here.
Connie nodded her head as Kelly was right, the closer it got to the wedding the more Connie worried about everything including the most trivial things. She had to keep telling herself to stay calm and think rationally.
Connie: Your right I shouldn't worry.
Kelly: Exactly, everything is going to be fine.
There was gentle knock at the bedroom door, as Connie repeated Kelly's words to herself again.
Kelly: Come in.
Connie glanced across to the bedroom door as it was opened, and shot up out from her chair as Vanessa stepped into the room with a large smile on her face.
Vanessa: Hi!
The two friends exchanged a friendly hug as Vanessa dropped her bag that she had been carrying down by the side of the dressing table. After breaking their hug Vanessa took hold of her friends hands.
Vanessa: How are you feeling?
Connie: ;;nods;; I'm good
She paused.
Connie: I think.
Connie paused again, before shaking her head feverously as a smiled formed on her lips and she started to bouncing up and down.
Connie: I don't really know, what I'm feeling
Vanessa smiled, she was picking up a lot of different strong emotions coming from her friend. While Vanessa could tell that Connie was quite nervous about everything that was going on, the majority of the feelings she was picking up from Connie were only positive. She appeared to be utterly excited about the journey that was before her. The feelings that she was sensing were quite infectious and Vanessa couldn't help but grow excited herself.
Vanessa: It sounds to me like your ready to get married!
Connie: I know! ;;still bouncing on her feet;; But I can't shake these nerves.
Vanessa: ;;shakes her head;; You don't need to, they are perfectly natural.
Connie nodded her head, she felt like someone had opened a lever and removing most of her worries, replacing them with a flood of excitement and happiness. The door to the bedroom swung open again, as Connie's and Kelly's mother entered the room followed by their aunt Nicole, and their cousin Charlotte. Connie looked across at her mother as she retightened the belt on her dressing gown, that had come loose while she was jumping around in excitement.
Elizabeth: ;;smiling;; Ladies it's about time that we started getting you three ready.
Connie: Hey Mum,
Elizabeth: ;;to Connie;; My, your looking much better dear.
Kelly: Of course she is Mum. She's getting married!
Elizabeth: ;;smiles;; It's good to see a smile back on your face. Now are we ready to get started.
Connie looked to both Kelly and Vanessa who both quickly nodded their heads indicating to her that they were ready to kick things off. Connie looked back to her mother and nodded her head.
Connie: We're good.
Elizabeth: Good, we have a lot to do starting with hair and make up. ;;looks back to Connie;; Now do you have everything?
Connie shook her head as she wasn't quite sure what her mother meant.
Connie: What do you mean?
Elizabeth exchanged glances with Aunt Nicole, who quickly explained what Elizabeth had meant to Connie.
Nicole: You know, something old, something new, something borrowed.
Charlotte: ;;joining in;; And something blue.
Nicole: It's tradition after all.
Connie: Oh.
Connie had completely forgotten about that, she had been so wrapped up in everything that was going on over the past couple of days that it had slipped her mind. Her mind quickly raced as she thought about what she would use to cover everything.
Connie: Well Grandma's necklace is old.
Kelly: And your dress is new along with you jewellery so thats covered.
She nodded her head as Kelly was right, her wedding dress was brand new along with most of her jewellery besides her grandmother's necklace.
Charlotte: What about something borrowed?
Connie started to grow a little bit worried again, as she hadnt really borrowed anything off of anyone. Finally she shook her head.
Connie: I don't know.
Vanessa had been listening in closely to the discussion that was taking place before her. This was the first time that she had heard about this particular tradition, as it was not mentioned in any of the texts that she had read.
Charlotte: I can let you borrow my handkerchief if you want?
Connie: ;;gives her cousin a funny look;; A handkerchief?
Charlotte: ;;shrugs;; It would be borrowed.
An idea suddenly came to Vanessa as she had something tucked away in her bag that she felt could be useful. She had been planning to give it to Connie as a token of luck for the ceremony, but she knew that it could easily serve as the borrowed item
Vanessa: I might have something.
Connie: ;;sounding hopeful;; Yes?
Vanessa nodded her head as she picked up her bag from the floor and started to rummage through it. Finding what she was after she pulled out a small velvet pouch. She opened the pouch and removed a small item from it, which she passed to Connie.
Vanessa: Here.
Connie: ;;looks down at the small hair band;; What is it?
The item was a while Betazoid hair band that would be worn by a Betazoid bride to a wedding. It served a similar aspect to the earth tradition of the tossing of the bouquet, as the bride threw it over her shoulder after the wedding. To the woman who caught the band, it would mean that the love of her life is at the wedding gathering.
Vanessa: It's a Betazoid wedding hair band; it's the only thing that a bride will wear at a Betazoid ceremony. I was going to give it to you as a gift, but all things considering I guess you can borrow it.
Connie: Wow, thank you it's beautiful.
Vanessa: ;;smiles;; Your welcome.
Connie was thankful for her friend's thoughtful gesture, as the simple pain white hair band was perfect. She looked up at her cousin Charlotte who was going to be doing her hair.
Connie: Can we use this?
Charlotte: ;;smiles;; Of course we can.
Connie: Great, now all I need is something blue.
Kelly: Leave that one with me I have something in mind.
Connie looked across at her sister.
Connie: You do?
Kelly: Trust me your going to love it.
Connie: Okay then, I'll leave it in your hands.
Kelly smiled as Elizabeth clapped her hands together, quickly catching Connie's attention.
Elizabeth: Let's go girls we've got a wedding to get ready for.
Connie nodded her head, up until now everything that almost appeared to be in slow motion to her, but things now were rapidly speeding up at a great rate of knots. She knew that it wouldn't be long now before she was married to her soul mate and companion for life.
