The Pearen System is a large mostly uncharted star system located on the very edge of the Federation side of the Neutral Zone. It is home to one Class M Planet that identified at the turn of the century as being a possible planet for Federation expansion. The expansion plans were never realised due to the system's close proximity to the Romulan Neutral Zone and the system has been left well and truely untouched by the Federation. This made the Pearen System a ideal staging point for the Rikan Pirates who established a small supply base on the western continent of Pearen IV. The Rikan base was uncovered by the crew of the USS Pacifica during 2381 and was dissembled shortly after.
The Pearen System has since been named off limits to all shipping by the Federation Council and by Star Fleet command, due to the presence of a powerful life form that lives on the surface of Pearen IV.
