Lieutenant General is a military rank, the equivalent of which is used by the service organizations of many civilizations.
Use in Starfleet's Marine Corp
The rank of Lieutenant General is the third flag officer rank used by Starfleet's Marine Core. The rank is equivalent to the Star Fleet flag rank of Vice Admiral. In the Marine Corp a Lieutenant General typically oversees the command of three Marine Divisions.
