~~Doctor Butterworth's Office, Sickbay USS Pacifica~~
Connie leaned back in her chair and took a sip from the steaming hot cup of freshly replicated coffee that she was tenderly nursing in her hands. In delight a small smile appeared on her lips as she swallowed the pleasant sharp tasting liquid. The coffee was the perfect energiser for Connie after what had turned out to be a rather slow and mundane morning spent in the Pacifica's primary main medical bay. Sickbay was usually always quiet when the Pacifica called into port and today was now different with little but the occasional scheduled crew physical to fill in the hours. Connie had just finished one such appointment with Ensign Oliver Shepard from the Pacifica's Security Department. She was now updating his file with the latest results from the tricorder while she enjoyed what was her second cup of coffee for the day.
The terminal on her desk beeped softly, indicating that the update to Ensign Shepard's medical file had been completed. Connie shuffled forward in her chair and placed her mug down on the clear surface of her desk. She double checked the information on the screen to make sure that the file had been updated correctly, never in her career had the computer made a mistake when it came to updating a file but Connie still always double checked as it was a habit that had been drilled into her during time at the Academy. Once she was certain that everything was in order Connie signed off on it and saved the updated file into the ship's databanks.
She was about to return to her cup of coffee when a flashing message indicator in the bottom right hand corner of the screen caught her attention. Connie leaned forward and rested her elbow on the desk as flicked through to her inbox where a message flagged important was waiting for her from the Personnel Office at Starfleet Medical. She opened the message to discover that it contained a list of Starfleet Doctors and Nurses who were currently available for reassignment to the Pacifica. Connie had been waiting for Starfleet Medical to send her the list for a couple of days now as she needed to find both a new doctor and a new head nurse to join the Pacifica's medical staff following a couple of transfers. The head nurse position was already close to being filled with Connie waiting for a reply from her first choice, Lieutenant Carmen Ortiz who was serving on the USS Kilimanjaro. The open Doctor position which had just been vacated by Doctor Lindi Kafton who had been poached by the Station Commander of Starbase 456 was proving to be a more time consuming task.
Connie smiled to herself and started to run her eyes over the names on the small but nonetheless impressive list as she immediately recognised a couple of the names. She was about to start reviewing the file on the first of the candidates when the doors to her office slid open with a soft hiss.
“Connie.”
“Yes?”
Connie looked up from her desk terminal and over at the open door to see the Pacifica's Assistant Chief Medical Officer Sarah Patterson. She was wearing a long off-white lab coat over her Starfleet Uniform and her blonde hair was pulled up into a bun.
“Have you been to the lab this morning?” Sarah asked as she leaned up against the side of the door frame.
Connie shook her head and frowned. “No why?”
A small smile crossed Sarah’s face, “You might want to come and take a look then.”
Sarah disappeared back out of the door and into Sickbay before Connie had a chance to utter a reply. By mentioning the lab Connie knew that Sarah was talking about the plant specimens that they were attempting to grow without much success in Medlab 2. She wondered what had gone wrong this time as she saved her work and flicked off the monitor. She stole a couple of quick sips from her coffee before she walked out of her office after Sarah.
